As of late 2018, there were virtually no options for clutches or flywheels for the 1.4 Turbo engine equipped Jeep Renegade. So, we stepped up to the plate to work with Clutchmasters to develop a line of clutches and flywheels for the Renegade.
This listing is for the lighter steel flywheel made by Modern Performance and Clutch Masters. The stock flywheel weighs in at 22 lbs, and because of the heavy weight of the flywheel, it can make for a driving experience in which the engine feels sluggish or slow to respond.
If you want to make the engine more peppy, faster to respond and more fun to drive, you can lessen the weight of the rotating mass of the engine. IE, the pistons, rods, crankshaft, flywheel, wheels, etc. This flywheel has a lower weight than the factory dual mass flywheel by the tune of almost 16%. Using this lighter flywheel instead of the factory flywheel will allow the engine to rev faster, and accelerate faster.
Its important to not reduce the weight of this particular flywheel too much, because having too light of a flywheel can lower the inertia needed to get the wheels rolling and cause the clutch to wear faster, especially on cars that could be going offroad and really being beaten on.
Notes:
The OEM dual mass flywheel is designed to be supremely quiet, and because of its mechanical clutch type engagement, it can allow for a smoother engagement of the clutch, but its very heavy and it slows the operation of the engine/car. Because of the mechanical engagement of the flywheel, it can fail over time. This lightweight flywheel on the other hand is a solid disc, with no moving parts so it cannot fail like a dual mass. The lightweight flywheel on the other hand, will increase performance and rpm response noticeably, and when driving you will not notice any additional noise, but with the clutch disengaged at idle it will be loud. If you depress the clutch, noise will be minimal.
